The distribution of embroidery at the beginning of the 19th century established the starting
point for the Vogtlandian White Goods Industry. After 1857, machine embroidery succeeded
handmade embroidery, and brought with it an enormous economic revival for Plauen and
the Vogtland as the sheer, filigree lace and embroidery grew in worldwide demand.
Embroidery Facility built in 1902, today Schaustickerei
The Schaustickerei resides in a building of typical construction of the embroidery industry
where each manufacturer's residential house was always within close proximity to factory
building. Tours and demonstrations of how the embroidery and lace is produced are given
daily. Visitors experience the fabrication of embroidery and lace with these historic machines
that are masterpieces of Saxionian engineering.
Stitching draft
Designers were trained at the Art school of textile industries Plauen for the Lace and
Embroidery Industry. The producing procedure requires designing a prototype and drawing
a stitching draft.

The Plauen Lace Doily, a very unique product by the Vogtlandian Embroidery Industry, runs
through a couple of production steps until a simple thread forms a filigree masterpiece.
